Countess de Castro is a German detective film from 1916 in the Stuart Webbs film series .

action

A lady of obviously high standing is found in a mentally confused state in the forest and admitted to the nearest mental hospital for examination. Master detective Stuart Webbs is called in to determine the identity of “the madmen”, as they are soon to be called. He finds out that the lady is a Countess de Castro and that she was in a castle with her husband. She was invited there by a former friend of her husband, a certain Mr. de Mondro.

But this de Mondro was up to no good. Hardly having arrived at the castle, the lord of the castle, Count de Castro, locked himself in a dungeon and tried to offend the countess, who, however, defended herself with a halberd belonging to the castle and killed the nefarious villain in self-defense. In shock, she ran from the castle into the nearby forest, where she finally collapsed and was later found passed out. Webbs rushes to the castle and frees the count from his dungeon.
