Hans Stumpfeldt

Hans Stumpfeldt (born September 9, 1941 in Schroda / Posen ; † March 27, 2018 in Hamburg ) was a German sinologist . He mainly researched the history and state philosophy of the Han and pre-Han times.

Life

Stumpfeldt grew up in Lohme on Rügen . After fleeing the GDR , he studied politics, history and sinology in Freiburg im Breisgau . 1967 doctorate, subsequently scientific assistant at the Sinological Department of the University of Münster with Ulrich Unger . After his habilitation in 1977, he was appointed professor of Sinology at the University of Hamburg in 1979 , where he succeeded Wolfgang Franke at the chair for Chinese history and society. He retired in 2006.
