Hans Theo Siepe

Hans Theo Siepe (born March 12, 1947 in Birkenfeld ) is a German Romance studies and literary scholar.

life and work

Siepe attended the Regino-Gymnasium in Prüm until 1966 . He studied Romance and German in Cologne and Aix-en-Provence . In 1973 he moved from Cologne to an assistant position at the University of Duisburg (with Raimund Theis ) and received his doctorate there in 1976 with the dissertation The Reader of Surrealism. Studies on communication aesthetics (Klett-Cotta, Stuttgart 1977, French online 2010). He completed his habilitation there in 1983 with the book Adventure and Mystery. Investigations into the structures and myths of the popular novel by Gaston Leroux (Peter Lang, Bern 1989). From 1984 to 1996 he was professor at the University of Duisburg, from 1996 to 2001 at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and from 2001 to 2012 at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf , HHU, (there from 2009 to 2011 also Dean).

The Stefan George Prize for young literary translators

The Department of Literary Translation at HHU organizes the jury and the event for the awarding of the prize for the Stefan George Prize , a competition for translators of French literature. The literary prize of € 2500 set up by the Conseil international de la langue française CILL supports new translators of francophone fiction in German-speaking countries every two years.
