Bernd Kortländer

Bernd Kortländer (born December 8, 1947 in Münster ) is a German literary scholar .

Life

From 1968 to 1973 Kortländer studied German , philosophy , pedagogy , Romance studies , journalism and musicology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg . In 1977 he received his doctorate from the Westphalian Wilhelms University with a thesis on Annette von Droste-Hülshoff .

Since October 1979 he has worked at the Heinrich Heine Institute in the state capital Düsseldorf , from 1986 to 2012 as its deputy head, where he was responsible in particular for the “Legacies and Manuscript Collection” department. He was also a lecturer in German literature at the Universities of Osnabrück and Münster (until 1985) and lecturer in the departments of Romance and German at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf , from 2004 to 2013 as an honorary professor.

As editor and researcher, Kortländer has dealt in particular with the works of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff and Heinrich Heine . At the Heinrich Heine Institute he examined the transfer of culture between Germany and France in a series of exhibitions, colloquia and publications . In addition, with the establishment and expansion of the “Rhenish Literature Archive”, he created a focus for regional literary research.

From 1978 to 2010 he was a board member of the Annette-von-Droste-Gesellschaft, Münster, from 1987 to 1997 managing director of the Friedrich-Spee-Gesellschaft, Düsseldorf and from 2004 to 2010 chairman of the NRW Literature Council. Since 2001 he has been a member of the literature commission in the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe and since 2006 also on the board. In 1990 the Republic of France awarded him the “Ordre des Palmes académiques” for his services to Franco-German cultural relations.
