Hans W. Scheicher

Hans Wolfgang Scheicher (born March 16, 1931 in Bergen (Chiemgau) ; † October 8, 2016 in Marquartstein ) was a German journalist .

Life

Hans Scheicher, son of forester Peter Scheicher and Elisabeth Scheicher (née Gradl), grew up in Marquartstein with his brothers Fritz and Hermann. There he attended the Marquartstein school home.

After his retirement, Scheicher moved from the Rhein-Main area back to the Chiemgau .

Scheicher died on October 8, 2016 at the age of 85.

Hans Scheicher was married twice and has a daughter and a son from his first marriage to Ursula Scheicher-Zipfel.

Professional background

After graduating, Hans Scheicher went to the Süddeutsche Zeitung and was the foreign policy editor there. In 1961 he went to Washington, DC , United States to Peter von Zahn and was there as editorial director for ARD telecast The reporter Windrose reported operates. In 1964 Scheicher returned to Germany and successfully applied to ZDF in Wiesbaden , where he worked as editor-in-chief in the series blickpunkt and ZDF-Magazin .

He earned his journalistic services not only as a foreign correspondent and head of the ZDF studio in Singapore , which he helped set up and where he covered the Southeast Asian region from 1970 to 1977, but also as a war correspondent in the Vietnam War . After a short stay in Germany, Scheicher moved back to a crisis area in 1977, this time in the Middle East, from where he reported regularly as head of the ZDF studio in Beirut .

In 1982 he came back to Mainz and was one of the moderators of the heute journal until 1985 . In October 1985 Scheicher then took over the post of head of the ZDF studio in New York from Hanns Joachim Friedrichs and moderated the program Bilder aus Amerika with Dieter Kronzucker and later with Gerd Helbig . In 1990 he returned to Germany to temporarily co-host the show live from the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main alongside Petra Gerster .

In April 1991, Hans Scheicher retired.
