Hans Zeller

Hans Zeller (born February 27, 1926 in Wädenswil ; † August 28, 2014 ) was a Swiss literary scholar .

Life

From 1945 Zeller first studied physics and chemistry. After studying German and Classical Philology in Zurich, he received his doctorate in 1953. From 1953 to 1965 he worked as a high school teacher.

From 1965 to 1968 he was Professor of Modern German Literature at the University of Zurich and 1968 to 1992 at the University of Freiburg i. Üe. ; In 1976/1977 he was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty there.

Zeller was an expert on the life and work of Conrad Ferdinand Meyer , one of the most important German-speaking Swiss poets of the 19th century. Zeller is considered to be one of the most important representatives of edition philology . He advocated that, in addition to the literary texts, their complete history with all its variants should be presented.
