The Hansa Type A 6 is a luxury vehicle from the Hansa-Automobilwerke in Varel . The eight-cylinder model Hansa Type A 8 was added to this six-cylinder model .

history

At the end of 1927, Hansa presented the types A 6 and A 8. Only the chassis came from Hansa, the engines were all supplied by Continental Motors from the USA. All superstructures came from Karmann from Osnabrück .

In the years 1927 and 1928 the type A 6 13/60 PS was manufactured. In 1928 it was replaced by the Type A 6 13/65 PS , which was built until 1930. The eight-cylinder model type A 8 16/70 PS , the production of which began in 1927, remained in production until 1930. The type A 8 17/85 PS arrived as early as 1928, production of which was stopped in 1931.

The heavy wagons were difficult to sell during the global economic crisis , which brought the company into such economic distress that it was up for bankruptcy . Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Borgward and Wilhelm Tecklenborg therefore took over the company shares in 1931.

Engine, transmission and chassis

The type A 6 13/60 hp had a six-cylinder in-line engine with an output of 60 hp (44 kW) at 3000 rpm. With a bore of 82.55 mm and a stroke of 101.6 mm, the displacement was 3262 cm³. The valves on the side were actuated directly by a camshaft driven by spur gears below ( SV valve control ). In the A 6 13/65 PS , the engine had a capacity of 3489 cm³ (bore × stroke = 85.5 mm × 102 mm) and developed 65 PS (48 kW) at 3000 rpm.

The eight-cylinder in-line engine of the Hansa Type A 8 16/70 PS had a displacement of 3996 cm³ (bore × stroke = 72.8 mm × 120 mm) and developed 70 PS (51 kW) at 3000 / min. The eight-cylinder A 8 17/85 PS engine had a displacement of 4324 cm³ (bore × stroke = 76 mm × 120 mm) and developed 85 PS (62.5 kW) at 3200 rpm. These engines also had side-mounted valves.

The top speed of the A 6 13/60 PS was 100 km / h, while the successor A 6 13/65 PS reached 105 km / h. The A 8 16/70 PS was up to 110 km / h and the successor A 8 17/85 PS brought it to 120 km / h.

All models had an unsynchronized four-speed gearbox with center shift (stick shift). The rear wheels were driven by a cardan shaft .

Both types A 6 and A 8 had rigid axles at the front and rear, which were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. All four wheels of all models were braked hydraulically; the handbrake worked on the rear wheels.

Bodies

The A 6 13/60 PS was available as a four-door sedan and Pullman sedan as well as a two-door, four-seater convertible ; the doors of the four-door were hinged on the A and C-pillars (i.e. the front doors at the front and the rear doors at the back), those of the convertible were hinged at the front. Of all A-8 types and the later A 6 13/65 hp, there were also seven-seater touring cars , convertibles with two or three seats and convertibles with four doors. All the bodies had a vertical radiator grille between the individual headlights. The spare wheels were attached on both sides behind the front fenders.
