Hanser Joel Alberto Peña (born October 17, 1992 in San Francisco de Macorís , Dominican Republic ) is a Dominican baseball player for the Baltimore Orioles in Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Texas Rangers .
Career
Texas Rangers
Alberto signed as a free agent with the Texas Rangers in November 2009 and received a bonus of $ 7,000. In 2010 he played for the Dominican Summer Rangers of the Dominican Summer League at rookie level and won the batting title. Alberto began the 2013 season with the Frisco Rough Riders of the Class AA Texas League , but was later demoted to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League . In 2014 he returned to Frisco and won the Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award for best defensive shortstop in minor league baseball .
The Rangers promoted Alberto to the Major League on May 28, 2015. The next day he made his debut against the Boston Red Sox . He beat .200 with two Run Batted In (RBI) postseason two in the 2015 American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays . On December 14, 2017, Alberto signed a contract with the Rangers in a minor league.
Baltimore Orioles
Alberto was claimed by the New York Yankees on November 2, 2018. However, the Yankees removed Alberto again on January 11, 2019. Alberto was claimed by the Baltimore Orioles just hours later. Alberto was removed on February 19, 2019. On February 22, 2019, Alberto was claimed by the San Francisco Giants . On March 1, the Orioles claimed Alberto again and put him on the 40-man roster.
On April 7, 2019, in a game against the New York Yankees , Alberto played as a pitcher for the first time. Two runs and one home run were achieved.
