Hany Guda Ramzy (born March 10, 1969 in Cairo ) is a former Egyptian football player . Ramzy played as the central defender and sweeper . He has been a trainer since the end of his career.

Club career

Ramzy began his playing career in the youth of al Ahly Cairo , in 1987 he also had his professional debut there, after two Egyptian championships and a cup win, Ramzy moved in 1990 to the Swiss National League A to Neuchâtel Xamax . After five years in which he was able to score nine goals in 85 appearances, he went to Werder Bremen and became the first Egyptian to play in the Bundesliga . Ramzy had his best time at Bremen from 1994 to 1998. In his first season he was able to celebrate the runner-up with the team.

In 1998 Otto Rehhagel , Ramzy's old coach from Bremen, brought him to the Palatinate for 1. FC Kaiserslautern . He was a regular player until 2003, but was injured so badly on August 2, 2003 that he did not play in the Bundesliga until his contract expired in 2005. During this time he made his coaching license and worked in the youth division of the club.

After his contract with FCK expired, he signed with 1. FC Saarbrücken , then 2. Bundesliga , but left the club after four appearances to become assistant coach at the Cairo first division ENPPI Club .

National team

Ramzy had a total of 124 appearances for the Egyptian national football team between 1988 and 2003 , only Ibrahim Hassan (with 125 international matches) and Hossam Hassan (170 games until September 2006) came on more appearances in the national team. His greatest successes with the national team were participating in the 1990 World Cup in Italy and winning the 1998 African Cup . Ramzy is also Egypt's record player at the Africa Cup .

Coaching career

Until December 2009 Ramzy was assistant coach of the Egyptian U20 national team. He has held this position since September 2008. Before that, he worked as an assistant coach for the first division club ENPPI. When the then coach of the club Rainer Zobel had to leave in January 2007, he took over the post as coach until the end of the season.

On December 22, 2009, he took over the position of head coach of the Egyptian U-23 national team. He was supposed to lead the team to the 2012 Olympic Games in London .

After training as a trainer at Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries Club (July 2015 to October 2016), Ittihad El-Shorta (February 2016 to June 2016), he trained with Dubai SC from November 2016 to May 2017 , before Ramzy joined in August 2017 Egyptian club Ittihad El Iskandary was presented as coach. This was followed by a brief engagement as national coach of Libya before he became assistant coach of Javier Aguirre in Egypt after the 2018 World Cup .

Private

He is a member of the Coptic Orthodox Church . He has been married to the Italian Emanuela since January 10, 2002. His son was born on September 14, 2002.

Criminal trial

In 2002 Ramzy was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment by the Kaiserslautern District Court for sexual assault under Section 177 of the German Criminal Code, but the sentence was suspended on probation . In August 2001 he had sexually assaulted a stranger in a restaurant in Kaiserslautern , Ramzy admitted the act.
