Harald Rudolf Ernst Julius Poelchau (born June 23, 1857 in Hamburg , † January 18, 1938 there ) was a German lawyer.

Life

Harald Polchau was the son of the Hamburg lawyer Hermann Poelchau and graduated from the Johanneum School of Academics in Hamburg in 1878 . He then studied law at the University of Göttingen. In 1879 he became a member of the Corps Hannovera Göttingen . From 1881 he was a trainee lawyer in Hamburg. He was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD. In 1885 he passed the assessor exam and settled in Hamburg in a partnership with Julius Scharlach , Julius Ludwig Seebohm and Eduard Wilhelm Westphal as a lawyer, which he continued after their death together with Alexander Lutteroth , Otto Scharlach and Alfonso Stegemann. The law firm later became known as "Stegemann Sieveking Lutteroth" and continues as the Hamburg office of the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer .

Poelchau was a member of the prison deputation and the medical college in Hamburg. He was chairman of the supervisory board of Dekage Handelsgesellschaft AG , Deutsche Vacuum Oel AG and Ocean Versicherungs-AG as well as second chairman of the supervisory board of Asbest- & Gummiwerke Calmon AG , all based in Hamburg.

He was also a board member of the Hamburg regional association of the German War Graves Commission eV , chairman of the church council of the Matthäuskirche in Hamburg-Winterhude , member of the Hamburg church synod, 2nd chairman of the Das Rauhe Haus foundation , member of the board of the German relief association for released prisoners , administrator of charitable Foundations such as that of the Hiob Hospital , the Hieronymus Knaggerügge Foundation and the Johann Martin Ludewig Pickenpack Foundation .

Poelchau was a first lieutenant in the Landwehr. He was married to Emmy Pauline Ruperti. Three of her sons died in World War I. One daughter died in the service of the Red Cross during the war. His older brother was the merchant Warner Poelchau .
