Reinhard Poellath

Reinhard Pöllath (born January 15, 1948 in Marktredwitz ) is a German lawyer , manager and honorary professor .

Life

Pöllath comes from a family in Upper Franconia that has been running a carpentry shop since the 17th century. He passed the Abitur in 1967 in Marktredwitz. After completing his military service , he studied law at the University of Regensburg and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1969 to 1973 . He then received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation , with whose support he completed a master's degree at Harvard Law School until 1974 .

In 1977 he was admitted to the bar and initially practiced as a lawyer in Munich , then in Frankfurt am Main and Berlin . Until 1993 he was the partner of a law firm in Munich and until 1997 managing director of a real estate and hotel company. Together with other lawyers, he founded colleagues P + P Pöllath + Partners in 1997; the law firm is represented in Munich, Berlin and Frankfurt. He specializes in advising family businesses, corporate acquisitions, succession and assets, international and German tax law , foundations and trusts as well as pro bono activities.

He became known as an advisor to the Herz family, who, after disputes between the heirs, offered him interim chairmanship of Tchibo Holding AG in 2002 . After a year he became chairman of the supervisory board to succeed Jens Odewald

In 2006 he was awarded the dissertation of corporate transfer. PhD in succession or sales as a corporate organizational task, based on the manual on corporate acquisitions (14th edition in 2015).

In 2007, after the death of Erich Schumann , he took over the management of Brost Holding, which held 50 percent of the WAZ media group .

He is chairman of the supervisory board of Maxingvest AG (formerly Tchibo Holding AG) and Beiersdorf AG . He was chairman of the supervisory board of Escada SE.

Pöllath holds an honorary professorship at the Institute for Tax Law at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster (Westphalia) and is spokesman of the board of the Max Planck Foundation , which he founded in 2006 together with Stefan von Holtzbrinck . He is the founder or sponsor of the Foundation Help for Self-Help (Up Microloans), the Foundation ex Oriente, the Korea Foundation, the Beiersdorf-Unna Foundation and a member of the board of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting Foundation.

In the fall of 2013, Pöllath was in custody for nine days on suspicion of aiding and abetting the evasion of gift taxes of up to 440 million euros by the pharmaceutical billionaire Curt Engelhorn , whose assets Pöllath co-manages. The back tax payment negotiated with the tax authorities by the Engelhorn family should amount to around 135 million euros.
