Career

Hardy Åström began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at Skellefteå AIK , for whose professional team he was active in the top Swedish league from 1974 to 1977 - first in Division 1 and from the 1975/76 season in the newly founded Elitserien . He then signed a contract as a free agent with the New York Rangers , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1977/78 season . In his four appearances, he had an average goal against 3.50 per game. The rest of the season he spent with his farm team New Haven Nighthawks in the American Hockey League . He spent the 1978/79 season at his home club Skellefteå AIK in the Elitserien.

On July 2, 1979 Åström was transferred from the New York Rangers in exchange for Bill Lochead to the Colorado Rockies , for which he was regularly used in the NHL in the following two years. In the 1980/81 season , the Swede was also in a total of eight games for the Fort Worth Texans in the Central Hockey League . In the CHL he also spent the entire 1981/82 season with the Oklahoma City Stars . For the 1982/83 season he returned to Sweden, where he was initially active until the end of the season for Örebro HK in the now second-rate Division 1. He then played for a year for MoDo AIK in the Elitserien and two seasons for their league rivals Södertälje SK . With the latter he was Swedish champion in the 1984/85 season . In the following season he was runner-up with the team, whereupon he ended his career at the age of 35.
