The Harff'sche Burg is the ruin of a Niederungsburg on the private property of the Trompeterhof between the Neffelbach and the cemetery in Nörvenich , Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
Werner von Vlatten-Merode received a farm in Nörvenich by dividing the inheritance around 1400 . A castle, the Harff'sche Burg, was built here a century and a half later. It was built in 1565 by Johann von Harff zu Geilenkirchen .
100 years later the property fell to Philipp Wilhelm Freiherr von Harff-Dreyborn.
In the 19th century, Maximilian Graf Wolff Metternich acquired the Niederungsburg and the associated courtyards. By marriage she came into the possession of the Viscounts de Maistre zu Gymnich .
The castle has been uninhabited since 1880. Since then, the ruin has continued to collapse.
In 1904 large parts of the roof collapsed , in 1909 the stepped gable , and in 1933 all roof and gable parts had disappeared. In 1935 the bay window was renovated and in 1938 attempts were made to take safety measures on the masonry and the stair tower, which, however, were never completed due to the construction of the western wall . In December 2017, the State Monuments Office of North Rhine-Westphalia made 12,000 euros available for initial security measures for the ruins
At the beginning of the 1930s the property came into private hands.
The castle was entered on March 19, 1985 in the list of monuments of the municipality of Nörvenich under No. 42.
In 2018, the federal government approved 850,000 euros for the renovation and maintenance of the ruin.
