Hariharananda
Swami Paramahamsa Hariharananda Giri ( bengali হরিহরানন্দ গিরী , Hariharānanda Girī; born May 27, 1907 in Habibpur , Nadia District , Bengal , India ; † December 3, 2002 ; real name: Rabindranath Bhattacharya ) was a monk (Swami) of the Hindu Giri order and became best known in the West as a teacher of Kriya Yoga .
Life
Rabindranath Bhattacharya took the vow of celibacy at the age of 12. One year later he was instructed in Jnana Yoga . At the age of 25 he was initiated into Kriya Yoga by Yukteswar Giri , who became known in the West through Paramahamsa Yogananda's autobiography of a yogi . Hariharananda received further initiations from Yogananda, Bhupendranath Sanyal Mahasaya and Swami Satyananda Giri.
According to his followers, Paramahamsa Hariharananda has reached the highest level of nirvikalpa samadhi , the pulseless and breathless state. This has been confirmed by Western doctors. While Yogananda adapted Kriya Yoga to the West, Hariharananda taught the technique that was native to India and was taught by Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri . After spending most of his life on educational tours around the world, Hariharananda settled in Florida in the final years of his life. Some Indian swamis continue his work.
According to Hariharananda's Mahasamadhi , Swami Paramahamsa Prajnanananda Giri is considered his successor. Prajnanananda also published a number of books (see below).
There are Kriya Yoga centers in Florida (USA), Tattendorf (Austria), Sterksel (Holland), and Puri (India), for example .
