history
It is possible that there was an abandoned village there before 1343, but the first mention of it comes from May 9, 1363, when Harthlowa Wolya or Harthlowa Volia was transferred from Polish to Magdeburg law under the privilege of Casimir the Great . The Schulzenamt granted the privilege to a certain Mikołaj Czuczner , who was supposed to clear 40 hooves in the forest. 4 hooves were reserved for the king, 2 for the village mayor, one hoof for the church. The possessive name Harthlowa was derived from the personal name Hartel, a borrowing from the German Hartel / Hartmann, while the addition Wola (Latin libertas), which was left out shortly afterwards, meant a tax-free start-up. Later it was named Herclova (1373), Herclava (1374), Hartlowa (1383), Harclowa (1394), Harthlowa (1396), Herthlowa (1398), Chartlowa / Chorthlowa (1405), Harthloua (1441), Harthlyowa (1468) , Harthlowa (1529), Artlowa (1537), Hartlowa (1680), Harklowa (1765) mentioned.
The place initially belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Krakow Voivodeship , Biecz district . During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Harklowa became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). After the abolition of patrimonial it became a parish in the Jasło district . In 1861 crude oil was found in Harklowa and extracted from 1863. In the years 1874 to 1928 a total of 165,000 tons of oil were produced from 210 wells.
In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Harklowa came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .
From 1975 to 1998 Harklowa was part of the Krosno Voivodeship .
