Haro Senft

Haro Senft (born September 27, 1928 in Budweis , Czechoslovakia ; † February 4, 2016 in Munich ) was a German film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

The son of the bank director Jaroslaus Senft and his wife Hermine, née Reitspieß, attended a high school in Prague. From September 1943 to April 1945 he was an air force helper, from May 1945 to May 1946 interned as a civilian. From 1949 he studied at the Academy for Stage, Film and Funk in Wiesbaden. In addition, he worked as a volunteer and assistant in feature film productions.

In 1954 he founded his own film production company Bohême Film in Wiesbaden and, in 1956, the Haro Senft film production company in Munich. In addition to the active production of films, Senft was also involved in film-political initiatives. In 1958 he co-founded the film form - the third program , in 1959 the DOC 59 . In 1962 he became the initiator and co-author of the Oberhausen Manifesto and spokesman and board member of the Oberhausen Group . From 1961 to 1963 he worked as a guest lecturer at the Ulm School of Design and was a co-founder of the Young German Film Foundation (from 1965 the Board of Trustees for Young German Film ).

Senft has received numerous national and international awards and prizes for short, documentary and feature films. His documentary Kahl was nominated for an Oscar in 1962 as the first German short film . In 1964 the filmmaker received the German Film Prize for the short film Auto Auto . From the beginning of the 1970s, he became increasingly involved in German children's films . For example, he received first prize for the film A Day with the Wind at the 8th International Children's Film Festival in Giffoni Valle Piana in Italy.

His participation in various film industry committees also included founding and becoming a member of the working group for new German feature film producers, of which he had been an honorary member since 2002. In addition, until 1998 he was a member of the board of trustees of the German Children's Film Association. His daughter Marion (* 1948) comes from his first marriage.
