Harold Cowart
Harold Cowart (born June 12, 1944 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana , † June 27, 2010 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) was an American bassist and music producer .
Life
Cowart grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was a professional bass player at the age of 14. He initially joined Lenny Capello and the Dots . This was followed by John Fred & His Playboy Band . With this group he had the US number one hit Judy in Disguise (With Glasses) in 1968 , a parody of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by The Beatles .
In the 1970s he moved to Miami and worked as a studio musician at Criteria Recording Studios for Brook Benton , Frankie Valli , Andy Gibb and Barbra Streisand , among others . He was also part of the Bee Gees tour band . In the 1980s he played with Joe Laundry and the Southland Band, a local band from his hometown. In 1986 he played in the backing band for Fats Domino , Ray Charles and Jerry Lee Lewis at the Cinemax special Fats & Friends .
After his return to Baton Rouge, he founded a recording studio and produced numerous albums, including for Louisiana Boys , Al Hirt and the rapper Young Bleed . He died on June 16, 2010 at his home in Baton Rouge.
