Harri Reinert (born September 14, 1929 in Berlin ; † March 31, 2001 there ) was a German political scientist and politician ( SPD ). He made a particular contribution to the development and expansion of the adult education center in Berlin-Spandau , which was named after him.

Live and act

Harri Reinert was born on September 14, 1929 as the son of the businessman Harry Alexander Reinert (1882-1951) and his third wife Klara Martha Thiele (* 1904) in Berlin, where he attended elementary school and the Hohenzollern high school in Berlin-Schöneberg . After his family was bombed and moved to Zerbst / Anhalt , he continued to attend school there, interrupted by the Volkssturm and reconstruction work, and finally passed his Abitur in 1948. In the same year the family moved back to Berlin. During the blockade , Reinert worked on the construction of the airfield . In 1949 he began studying at the Free University of Berlin (FU), which he broke off for family reasons. Instead, he completed an apprenticeship as a business assistant (travel agency expedition) and worked in this profession for five years.

In 1955 he resumed his studies at the Free University of Berlin and the German University of Politics , which later became the Otto Suhr Institute . He completed his studies in politics , modern history and constitutional law in the winter semester 1959/1960 as a political scientist. In 1964 he received his doctorate at the Philosophical Faculty of the Free University of Berlin under Ernst Fraenkel and Klaus Stern . On his 1966 as supplement No. 15 to the Yearbook for American Studies under the title Mediation Committee and Conference Committees . A dissertation published on the comparative doctrine of systems of rule is still referred to in political science publications.

Reinert was already actively involved in politics during his studies. He was a member of the SPD and a district councilor in Berlin-Schöneberg. From 1961 he was initially a freelancer at the State Center for Political Education Work of the State of Berlin and the Press and Information Office of the State of Berlin, and from 1963 as a consultant at the State Center for Political Education Work.

From 1969 to 1991 Reinert held the post of director of the adult education center in Spandau. Under his leadership, the VHS developed into a professionalized training facility for all areas of the Spandau district. In 1991 he retired due to age.

Harri Reinert died on March 31, 2001 at the age of 71 in Berlin and found his final resting place in the Parkfriedhof Lichterfelde . He left a wife and two grown children.

Reinert developed the VHS Spandau from the rather simple beginnings without further scientific-pedagogical employees into a fully developed facility with a wide range of full-time program areas, including languages, professional training, art, cultural education, sociology and health education. While the VHS offered only 242 courses and individual events in 1969, there were more than 600 in 1991. This development was accompanied by better spatial equipment from just a few of its own rooms to a separate classroom building, which gradually led to a restructuring of the Course offers from predominantly evening courses to more day and weekend courses and more compact courses made possible.

Many areas of responsibility were set up that still play an important role in the work of the VHS today: target group-oriented courses for women's education, integration courses for foreign citizens, vocational training, acceptance of or introduction to final exams (state-recognized qualifications in accounting and computer applications ), Electronics courses with an examination from the Heinz Piest Institute , language and IT courses with the option of obtaining a certificate from the German Adult Education Association or international language certificates such as the Cambridge Certificate (English) and the DELF certificate (French).

Thanks to his rhetorical talent, his political experience and his legal knowledge, Reinert was able to successfully represent the interests of the adult education center in the higher-level decision-making bodies (adult education committee, district, state of Berlin). He was a member of the Working Group of Berlin Adult Education Centers and co-founder of the Society for the Promotion of Adult Education in Berlin. V.
