Hartmut König (born October 14, 1947 in Berlin ) is a former German journalist , songwriter and FDJ and SED functionary in the GDR .

Origin and education

Hartmut König's father was a sales representative and toolmaker and his mother was a telegraph operator . After attending the POS from 1954 to 1962, he obtained his Abitur in 1966 at an extended secondary school (EOS) in Berlin, while at the same time completing vocational training as a refrigeration system manufacturer from 1962 to 1966 . After a traineeship at “ New Germany ”, he studied from 1967 to 1971 at the Journalism section of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . The research study that followed until 1973 was awarded a doctorate in 1974 with a Dr. phil. completed.

From 1964 to 1971 König was a member of the beat group “ Team 4 ” (renamed in 1967 to “ Thomas Natschinski and his group”) and from 1966 to 1973 of the “ October Club ”. From 1964 he wrote numerous songs and poems for his groups (including Tell me where you are ). In 1966 he wrote the music for the documentary short film Bei Uns im Mai by Karl Gass . He also wrote the lyrics from the DEFA film Hot Summer (1968).

Profession and Politics

König joined the FDJ in 1961 and the SED in 1967. From 1973 to 1976 he was (as FDJ representative) editor-in-chief of the " Weltstudentennachrichten " (central organ of the International Student Union in Prague ). In June 1976 he moved to the office of the Central Council and became Secretary of the Central Council of the FDJ, initially for international work and from 1979 for culture. On December 16, 1988, he was retired from this position and awarded the Ernst Thälmann Medal , the highest medal of the FDJ.

Since 1979 he was also a member of the culture commission of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED , a candidate from 1981 and from 1986 to 1989 a member of the Central Committee of the SED . In January 1989 he became Deputy Minister of Culture and in April 1989 Vice President of the newly constituted National Committee for Health Education in the GDR.

König had been a member of the World Peace Council since 1977 and vice-president of the GDR Peace Council from 1982 to 1986 .

König resigned from the SED-PDS in 1990 . Until 2010 he worked as an authorized signatory and advertising manager for a newspaper publisher in Brandenburg an der Havel .
