Hasan Al

Hasan Al (born June 18, 1972 in Sivas ) is a former Danish boxer of Turkish origin. He was European welterweight champion in 1996 with the amateurs and took part in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

Boxing career

Born in Turkey, he trained at the boxing club Frederiksværk and was Danish light welterweight champion in 1993 (60 to 63.5 kg), and Danish welterweight champion in 1994, 1995 and 1996 (63.5 to 67 kg). In April 1996 he also won the 31st European welterweight championships in Vejle , after beating Michael Jones from England (13: 5), Vitalijus Karpačiauskas from Lithuania (4: 3), Tengis Meschadze from Georgia (6: 2), Serhij Dsindsiruk from Ukraine (3: 1) and Marian Simion from Romania (10: 4) prevailed.

As reigning European champion, he then took part in the 26th Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta , where he defeated Rogelio Martínez from the Dominican Republic (tKo) and again Serhij Dsindsiruk from Ukraine (10: 4) before he defeated the welterweight division Romanian Marian Simion (8:16) was eliminated and reached 5th place.

After the Olympic Games he switched to the professional field and until 2004 played 36 fights in Denmark, the USA, the Netherlands and Spain, of which he won 32 and 3 were scored. In November 1997 he won unanimously on points against Alex Lubo and was thereby Central American champion of the WBC welterweight. In August 1998 he also won unanimously against ex- WBA world champion Meldrick Taylor . In October 1998 he won the IBF intercontinental championship in light middleweight by winning points against Angel Villegas .

In the fight for the international championship of the WBC in October 2001, he reached a draw against the later WBC world champion Carlos Baldomir , but lost in the rematch unanimously on points and thus suffered the only defeat of his professional career. In June 2002 he won the WBO Intercontinental Championship in the welterweight division against Elias Carrasco.
