Hauke ​​Jöns (born May 15, 1961 in Husum ) is a German prehistoric scientist .

Life

Hauke ​​Jöns studied prehistory, early history, anthropology and geology at the University of Kiel between 1983 and 1988 and graduated with a diploma. In 1990 he became a research assistant at the Institute for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Kiel as part of the Early Iron Extraction project in Joldelund and remained in this position until 1994. During this time, Jöns was working on excavations in Osterrönfeld. A place of discovery from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district . In 1995 he became a scientific employee of the Archaeological State Museum Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , where he coordinated the project The Significance of the Early Slavic Maritime Trade Center of Groß Strömkendorf . Between 1997 and 2000 he was a university assistant at Kiel University. In 2000, Jöns became deputy director of the State Archaeological Museum Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and at the same time head of the department of soil monument preservation . In 2001 he completed his habilitation at the University of Kiel with a thesis on the development of prehistoric and early historical iron metallurgy in northern Germany and southern Scandinavia , but only one year later he completed his habilitation at the University of Rostock . In November 2006, he moved from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to Lower Saxony and became deputy head of the institute and head of the cultural studies department at the Lower Saxony Institute for Historical Coastal Research (NIHK) in Wilhelmshaven , where he became chief scientific director in 2010. Since February 2010 he has also been an adjunct professor of archeology at the Heinrich Schliemann Institute at the University of Rostock.

Jöns deals with the history and metallurgy of iron, maritime archeology and coastal development, the urbanization processes of the early Middle Ages as well as the exchange and communication systems between the coastal zones and the hinterland. He is an appointed advisory member of the Association of State Archaeologists and a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute , member of the editorial team of the Archaeological Correspondence Gazette and a member of the Scientific Committee of the East Frisian Landscape . He is also the 1st chairman of the March Council for the promotion of research in the coastal area of ​​the North Sea.
