history

As of February 8, 1980, Beech Aircraft Corporation was owned by Raytheon Company , a US conglomerate . In August 1993 Raytheon also took over the business jets division from British Aerospace . Both acquisitions were merged in mid-September 1994 to form the new Raytheon Aircraft .

In 2006, Raytheon made the decision to focus on military projects and sell off the loss-making civil aircraft industry. On 21 December 2006 an agreement was reached with the Canadian Onex Corporation and the US Goldman Sachs , which then the holding company Hawker Beechcraft Inc. founded. That company acquired Raytheon Aircraft, renamed Hawker Beechcraft Corporation , on March 26, 2007 for $ 3.3 billion.

The company is located in Wichita, Kansas, where 6,300 of the over 8,000 employees are employed (as of 2007). Other production sites are Little Rock in Arkansas , Salina in Kansas and Chester in the UK . The company has over 100 authorized customer service centers worldwide.

On May 3, 2012, Hawker Beechcraft had to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to its high debt level of around $ 2.5 billion. By that time the company had delivered over 54,000 aircraft.

As of February 19, 2013, the company is no longer under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will continue to operate under the new name Beechcraft Corporation . The new and "narrower" company will continue to produce the King Air line, the T-6 and AT-6 and the piston-powered aircraft Bonanza and Baron. The company will continue to provide support for the original Hawker Beechcraft portfolio.
