Haymo Heritsch

Haymo Heritsch (born January 27, 1911 in Graz ; † November 30, 2009 ibid) was an Austrian mineralogist , petrograph , crystallographer and professor at the University of Graz .

Life

Heritsch, the son of Franz Heritsch , studied mineralogy and natural sciences and philosophy in Graz for teaching. He initially taught as a teacher and then became the assistant to the mineralogist Felix Machatschki in Graz. During the Second World War he served in the Air Force. During the war he completed his habilitation in Tübingen , but was not given any exemption or professorship, as he was, like his father, an opponent of the Nazi regime. In 1946 he became an associate professor in Graz.

He had been a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 1957 and he was an Honorary Fellow of the Mineralogical Society of America and an honorary member of the Austrian Mineralogical Society .
