Head ( proper spelling HEAD ) is an international sporting goods manufacturer based in Amsterdam (parent company Head NV) and in Kennelbach ( Vorarlberg , Austria , Head International GmbH and Head Sport GmbH). HTM Sport GmbH ( Head Tyrolia Mares ) is based in Schwechat .

history

The American Howard Head (* 1914 in Philadelphia ; † 1991) developed the first ski with a sandwich construction. In 1947 he was still working as an aircraft engineer and was skiing for the first time. He was disappointed with the heavy and stiff material of the skis, which were made entirely of wood. As a result, he quit his job at the Glenn L. Martin Company and put all his energy and experience into the development of new technologies for ski production: Today this is known and common as the "metal sandwich construction".

In 1950 he founded Head Ski Company, Inc.

The company now also produces tennis , squash and badminton equipment. The formerly independent Italian diving equipment company Mares has been a separate brand of the Head Group since 1996 .

Further brands are Tyrolia and Penn , so that the entire group operates as Head Tyrolia Mares (HTM group). This was in the meantime owned by the Austrian Austria Tabak in the 1990s . Head NV is a stock corporation listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange (HEAD) and NYSE (HED) .

Production facilities

The skis are now manufactured in Kennelbach , part of the production has been outsourced to Budweis (Czech Republic) in recent years ; the production of bindings and ski boot engineering takes place in Schwechat . Tennis rackets and shoes are produced in the Far East.
