Life

Waser received his doctorate in 1894 and then taught at the Höhere Töchterschule in Zurich. She was one of the well-known Swiss poets, u. a. she wrote Christmas games . In 1901 she met Auguste Forel , who worked closely with her husband, the psychiatrist Eugen Bleuler . At his suggestion, she founded the Swiss Confederation of Abstinent Women, which she presided over until 1921. From 1914 she helped Else Züblin to set up their alcohol-free soldiers' rooms. She and Eugen Bleuler had five children. The two sons, Manuel (* 1901) and Fabian (* 1903), partially continued and supported the work of the Temperenzler. Another son was the future psychiatrist Manfred Bleuler , who, like his father, became director at Burghölzli. From 1914 to 1918 Bleuler-Waser was a member of the board of directors of the Zurich women's center. From 1918 she initiated the women's education courses in Zurich - a kind of adult education center with women's issues. In addition, she headed the Commission for Social and Practical Work of the Federation of Swiss Women's Associations .
