Hedwig Jagiellonica (1513–1573)
Hedwig Jagiellonica ( March 15, 1513 in Posen ; † February 7, 1573 in Alt Ruppin as Jadwiga Jagiellonka ) was a Polish princess from the Jagiellonian dynasty . She was Electress of Brandenburg from 1535 .
Life
Hedwig was the daughter of the Polish King Sigismund I of Poland from his marriage to Barbara Zápolya , daughter of the Hungarian palatine and magnate Stephan Zápolya .
She married the Brandenburg Elector Joachim II on September 1, 1535 in Krakow . She accompanied her husband to the Diet in Regensburg in 1541 . When Joachim accepted the Luther doctrine , she stayed with her Catholic faith throughout her life , which her spouse assured her after interventions from Krakow.
After the death of Joachim II in 1571, Electress Hedwig lived at Ruppin Castle in Alt Ruppin . She died there on February 7, 1573.

- Hedwig (* 1540; † 1602), Princess of Brandenburg, married to Duke Julius of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel;
- Sophia (* 1541; † 1564), Princess of Brandenburg, married to Wilhelm von Rosenberg ;
