The first documentary mention dates from 1670, the place name is written like today's.
In 1656 six Seiffner residents bought land from landlord Caspar Heinrich von Schönberg on Purschenstein . Two years later the settlement on the Horn or Hörnel was named. On May 16, 1670 the place was officially founded and came to the parish Neuhausen. In 1758 a hydropower slewing gear was built, which can still be seen today, integrated into the open-air museum. During this time, the wood turning trade enjoyed a strong boom.
August Schumann mentions Heidelberg in 1816 in the State Lexicon of Saxony concerning a. a .:
- “It was built in modern times, and the greater part of the population made Seyffner toys and wooden goods; the local turners work for Erzgeb. Merchants, but have to make do sparingly enough. "
In 1822, the wooden toy factory was founded in Oberleutensdorf from Heidelberg . In 1833 the place became part of the Seiffen Parish. A school is first mentioned in 1837, and a new building was built in 1891. Construction of a central water supply began as early as 1927. In 1928 the large pond was expanded into a swimming pool.
On April 1, 1939, the place was incorporated into Seiffen.
