Career

Heidemarie Reineck started for SV Bayreuth . In 1967 she became German runner-up in the 100 meter butterfly. In 1968 she then won the title of 100 meters, 200 meters freestyle and 400 meters freestyle at the German Swimming Championships . At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , she could not qualify for an individual final. But with the 4-100 meter layer relay made up of Angelika Kraus , Uta Frommater , Heike Hustede and Heidemarie Reineck, she won bronze behind the USA and Australia . In 1969 , 1970 and 1971 Reineck won the German championship title in the 100 meter freestyle, and in 1970 also the over 200 meter freestyle. In 1970 she won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Barcelona with the individual layer relay .

In 1972 Reineck lost to Jutta Weber in the German championship . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Weber just failed over 100 meters in the intermediate run, while Reineck reached the final and was fifth in 00: 59.73 minutes. So she stayed a hundredth of a second above Weber's new German record, which Weber had set in the run-up, but qualified for the tier relay. First she took bronze with the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay, with Jutta Weber, Heidemarie Reineck, Gudrun Beckmann and Angela Steinbach behind the USA and the GDR . With the tier relay , Silke Pielen , Verena Eberle , Gudrun Beckmann and Heidemarie Reineck won another bronze medal, again behind the USA and the GDR. In 1973 the first swimming world championship took place in Belgrade . The freestyle relay won bronze in the same line-up as in Munich behind the GDR and the USA.

For her sporting success she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on September 11, 1973.
