Holy Spirit Church (Kerspleben)
The Evangelical Holy Spirit Church is located in the Kerspleben district of the city of Erfurt in Thuringia . Its church tower is the landmark and silhouette of the rural Kerspleben.
The parish belongs to the parish association Kerspleben in the parish of Weimar of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
history
The baroque hall church was built between 1719 and 1721. Its predecessor was the church of St. Peter and Paul , built elsewhere in the 14th century in the southern part of the village, whose church patronage was probably subordinate to the St. Peter monastery in Erfurt.
The church tower is dated 250 years earlier. He was probably free. The year 1456 is carved on the outer wall. The upper walkway on the battlements and the two-meter-thick walls with slits of light as well as the raised entrance on the south side indicate the defensive character of the tower. The tower not only had a protective function for the church and the place, but also for the passing Via Regia .
The interior is dominated by the baroque pulpit altar , the frescoes , a red painted curtain on the wall and a lush organ prospect . The late Gothic winged altar is furnished with 15 figures made of linden wood from 1490. The altar from Burgtonna was attributed to Großrudestedt . A baptismal angel , a lectern, a lecture cross , two life-size parish portraits, a stone crucifixion plaque on the eastern tower wall and much more adorn the church.
The organ with 31 registers on two manuals and a pedal was created by Johann Georg Schröter from Erfurt between 1720 and 1721.
A restoration took place between 1969 and 1972 and was completed in 1992. In 1996 the organ, the roof and the facade were restored. 2003–2004 it was the turn of the tower. In 1996 the organ, the roof and the facade were restored.
Since 2018, the church has been the venue for the summer concerts project in Erfurt village churches of the Erfurt Chamber Music Association .
