Holy Mass

The Missa Sancti Bernardi de Offida in B flat major, called Holy Mass , by Joseph Haydn ( Hob. XXII: 10) is the second of his six later masses . Haydn composed the mass in 1796, and it was also premiered on September 11 of the same year in the Bergkirche in Eisenstadt . It is dedicated to the Blessed Bernardo von Offida, a Capuchin . Its epithet Heiligmesse comes from the fact that in the Sanctus Haydn used the melody of an Austrian hymn known at the time, Holy, Holy, Holy, You Are Always Holy, in the middle voices.

A performance of the fair takes about 45 minutes.
