Heiner Dörner (* 24. April 1940 in Brno ) is a German wind energy - scientists and local politician ( FDP ).

Life

Dörner was born in Brno in what was then the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . After the end of the Second World War, his family fled to Germany, where he grew up in women in the Heilbronn district .

He attended the Robert-Mayer-Gymnasium Heilbronn and graduated from high school in 1959. He then completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic . From 1961 he studied aeronautical engineering at the Technical University (since 1967 University of Stuttgart ) . In 1967 he completed his degree in engineering with his diploma thesis on the design of a European AIRBUS aircraft . From 1968 to the end of 2004 he was a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Aircraft Construction (IFB) at the University of Stuttgart, until 1980 with Ulrich W. Hütter , then with Franz Joseph Arendts and finally with Klaus Drechsler . From 1971 he gave his own lectures in the aerospace engineering course, from 1991-2000 also at the University of Applied Sciences for Technology Esslingen (FHTE) on wind power plants. He supervised more than 100 study and diploma theses in both subject areas.

Dörner was a trainer for technical draughtsmen, a long-time representative of mid-level staff on the faculty council and from 1971 head of the internship office of the aerospace engineering faculty at the University of Stuttgart.

As an internationally recognized wind energy specialist, Dörner has received invitations to conference lectures in Argentina, Brazil, India, Sweden, Venezuela and the USA. Although he has been retired since 2004, he continues to hold elective lectures at the University of Stuttgart.

In his hometown Heilbronn , Dörner initiated the first referendum of the city in 1969 through a successful referendum , which was supposed to save trees in the city garden next to the festival hall Harmonie and prevent the construction of an underground car park under the city garden.

The referendum was unsuccessful, but brought Dörner into local politics. In 1970, he and others reactivated the Heilbronn Free Voters' Association . For them he was elected for the first time for the free voters in the local council in 1971, to which he has been a member of the city council with a four-year break. Since 1989 he has been the parliamentary group leader and group spokesman for Free Voters in the local council. In May 2014 he was re-elected to the city council for the 10th time. From 1984 he was a member of the association assembly of the Heilbronn-Franken regional association and contributed to the updating of wind energy use in this region. From 1981 to 2003 he was deputy state chairman of the Free Electoral Association of Baden-Württemberg, FWV.

Dörner lives in Heilbronn- Kirchhausen . He has three grown children and is known as a collector of Tiffany glass art .

Awards

In 1959, as a high school graduate, Heiner Dörner received the Otto Lilienthal Prize from the Scientific Society for Aviation (WGL), now the German Society for Aviation and Space Travel (DGLR), for his scientific essay The Flowing Around Wing . The prize was combined with a study grant of DM 1,000.

In 2001 Dörner was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his socio-political engagement in local politics and for the use of wind energy . The Mayor of Heilbronn, Helmut Himmelsbach, presented Dörner with the award on July 2, 2001. In 2004, Dörner was awarded the Richard Freudenberg Medal for outstanding services to local government. In 2014, the Badge of Merit in gold with a laurel wreath for 41 years of local politics was awarded by the Baden-Württemberg City Council .

On July 17, 2015, he was awarded the Faculty's “Golden Medal of Honor” for services to the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and Geodesy at the University of Stuttgart.
