Hendrikus Otto (born August 24, 1954 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch football player .

Career

Otto started his career at FC Amsterdam in 1974 and stayed until 1977. After his first position as a player, he went on to FC Twente Enschede . The then Dutch Cup winner signed the midfielder for three years, after which he went to Middlesbrough FC in England . There he made his debut against Tottenham Hotspur in 1981, which Borough lost 3-1. The Dutchman stayed on the island for five years before returning to ADO Den Haag in 1985 . In the seat of government of the Netherlands Otto played another seven years, he ended his career. He couldn't win a single title as a player.

Internationally, Otto played once for the Dutch national team. His commitment was strange, because Otto slipped into the squad when he drove his club colleague Jan Jongbloed to the meeting point of the national team at the airport . The called up player Willem van Hanegem did not come to the meeting point. So Otto was called up without further ado and went to the game against Yugoslavia and thus came to his only assignment in the team. He also took part as a substitute at the 1980 European Football Championship in Italy . Otto was not used and Netherlands was eliminated in the group stage as third.

Coaching career

Otto was assistant coach at Ajax Amsterdam from 1997 to 2000 . As assistant coach, he won the Dutch championship title in 1998 and the cup in 1997 and 1998. From 2000 to 2001 he was the head coach of HFC Haarlem .
