Heinrich Heine Monument in Bremen

The Heinrich Heine monument in Bremen - Mitte is on Altenwall next to the Kunsthalle Bremen . It was set up in 2010 and is included in the list of monuments and statues of the city of Bremen .

The monument

The bronze monument erected on October 1, 2010 shows Heine seated on a 1.20 meter high sandstone plinth surrounded by a bronze relief band with scenes of war and peace. The Berlin sculptor Waldemar Grzimek (1918–1984) was commissioned in the early 1950s to create a Heine memorial, the three versions of which from 1955 are now in Ludwigsfelde and Berlin ( Weinbergspark and Humboldt University ). In 1984 Grzimek was honored with the Bremen Sculpture Prize and he agreed to give one of his works to Bremen. The fourth cast was made in 2010 and is a gift from Bremen's honorary citizens Uwe Hollweg and Klaus Hübotter . Grzimek's estate is kept in the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus in Bremen, including the plaster cast of the Heinedenkmal.

The Heine Bank in the Bürgerpark

Another Bremen monument dedicated to the poet in the form of a metal bench designed by the architect Hans Lassen was erected in the Bürgerpark in 1904 on the initiative of the merchant KAMenge and the Literary Association . After damage from vandalism since 1915, demolition in 1923, a replica in 1924, the removal of the bronze plaques by the National Socialists in 1933 and the destruction of the remains in World War II, the rescued plaques were re-attached to a stone bench in the Bürgerpark in 1969.

Heinrich Heine

The great, romantic and revolutionary German poet and writer Heinrich Heine (1797–1856) will be honored. The critical, politically committed journalist, essayist and satirist Heine was both admired and hostile. He stayed in Bremen in 1826 on his trip to the North Sea and enjoyed the atmosphere and the wines in the Bremen Ratskeller . He sings about this in his book of songs , The North Sea , Second Cycle, 1825–1926: “In the harbor - happy the man who has reached the harbor and left the sea and the storms behind him, and now sits warm and calm in the good Ratskeller in Bremen ... “.
