The Heinrich Hertz Vocational College ( "HHBK" ) is a technical vocational college with a focus on chemistry, electrical engineering and information technology and a vocational high school.

Heinrich Hertz Vocational College

The school building at Redinghovenstrasse 16 in Düsseldorf was built from 1956 to 1958 according to plans by Heinz Kalenborn .

history

The school building was opened as "Metal Trade School 1". Since 1976 the building has housed the “Municipal School for Electrical Engineering”; Today the "Heinrich Hertz Vocational College" is located in the school building.

description

The school building comprises three structures and a connecting room. At the rear are the open spaces that are used as playgrounds. In all structures, the classrooms were arranged in the east and the workrooms in the west. The construction is based on a reinforced concrete skeleton with prefabricated supports. The three components differ in floor plan, size and facade design. The first component is six-storey and single-flush. The west facade of the first structure shows windows of the individual floors, which are offset one above the other. The second component is three-story and two-level. The west facade of the second component shows large windows that are evenly placed next to and on top of each other. In October 2018, the school building was expanded to include a four-story new building. The extension, which cost 11.6 million euros, comprises around 5,500 square meters of floor space, on which 26 classrooms and 14 ultra-modern laboratories as well as the necessary administrative and ancillary rooms have been created. The newly designed school yard connects the Heinrich Hertz vocational college with the branch of the Franz Jürgen vocational college. The school campus embodies an oversized representation of the Hertzian dipole , i.e. electromagnetic waves for signal transmission.

degrees

The students at the vocational school are trained in technical professions in the fields of electrical engineering , information technology and chemistry , e.g. B. to electronics technician (industry and trade), IT specialist and chemical laboratory technician .

Furthermore, all school qualifications with a technical orientation in these professional fields are offered. The secondary school diploma can be obtained in the occupational field of physics / chemistry / biology, and the intermediate school diploma in electrical engineering or information technology.

In addition, the Heinrich-Hertz-Berufskolleg offers full-time school-based training: the professions of information technology assistant or chemical-technical assistant can optionally be combined with the technical college entrance qualification or the Abitur .

For those interested in advanced training with a vocational qualification, the goal is technicians, full or part-time, also combined with a technical college entrance qualification.

A building

The A building is, even if the name suggests it, not the main building of the HHBK. In addition to IT rooms, there are rooms here for special work with electrical engineering systems as well as rooms specifically for soldering. The A building has a toilet facility. There is a direct passage via the B wing to the C building. As of January 2020

B tract

The B-wing is a transition between the C-building and the A-building. In addition to the teachers' room, this wing also houses the secretariat and the office of the school management as well as their representative. The corridor also has a toilet for the employees.

C building

The C-Building (Central Building) is the main building of the HHBK. There are standard classrooms as well as special electrotechnical and information technology rooms on a total of five floors. Direct access to the A building is also possible here via the B wing.

E building

The E-building is the newest building on the HHBK campus. This is an extension that costs 11.6 million euros and is mainly intended for the teaching units of the chemistry courses. In the building, which also has an elevator, there are 26 classrooms and 14 laboratories. The necessary administration rooms for any subjects are also located in the E-building as well as another staff room.
