Heinrich Beck (philosopher)

Heinrich Beck (born April 27, 1929 in Munich ) is a German philosopher specializing in natural theology and philosophical anthropology .

Life

After studying philosophy, psychology, Catholic theology as well as physics, biology, history and law in Munich and studies in pedagogy and sociology in Münster, Beck started work at the University of Munich in 1954 with a thesis on the modal structure of being in connection with causality-finality- Freedom and PhD by Nicolai Hartmann . In 1962 he completed his habilitation in philosophy at the University of Salzburg with a thesis on the structure of nudes and movements in reality from an encounter with Thomas Aquinas and Hegel . He then worked as an assistant at the University of Education in Vechta / Oldenburg and as a lecturer at the Social Academy of the Münster diocese .

In 1979 he was appointed full professor of philosophy at the Faculty of Education, Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Bamberg , which he held until his retirement in July 1997. Beck continues to teach and, together with Erwin Schadel, heads the research center at the University of Bamberg for intercultural philosophy and Comenius research . Beck had lectureships in Buenos Aires, Madrid and Mexico. At the Gustav Siewerth Academy he was a permanent guest professor for metaphysics and cultural philosophy.

He is a scientific consultor at the Universidad Pontificia de México , a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and the International Academy of Sciences and, since 2008, a corresponding member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Morales y Políticas . He is a member of the Vienna Catholic Academy.

Heinrich Beck is married and has three children. In 2012 he published an autobiography in which he brought up "the missteps and deficits of his life" with "a very unusual openness".

philosophy

Beck focuses on the theory of being, peace research, the philosophical penetration of the encounter between cultures and the interpretation of the evolution of nature and human culture. A special research project is called “Creative Peace through Encounters between World Cultures”.

Honors

He received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2003 and was awarded by Pope Benedict XVI. Knight of the Papal New Year's Eve in 2008.

In 1994 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Buenos Aires. He is titular and honorary professor at other universities, including Salzburg, Madrid and Buenos Aires.
