Heinrich Bohnsack

Heinrich Bohnsack (full name August Heinrich Bohnsack ; born April 8, 1735 in Borckau in Mecklenburg , † April 13, 1815 in Hanover ) was a German officer and author of a diary for the years 1803 to 1814. His work is considered one of the most important eyewitnesses - Reports on the time under the occupation of Germany by Napoleon Bonaparte's troops .

Life

Heinrich Bohnsack, born in Mecklenburg in 1735, joined the Hanoverian army as an artilleryman in 1755 in the Electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg . In 1789, when the French Revolution began , he was promoted to major . In 1794 he was retired.

In his retirement, Bohnsack lived in the Calenberger Neustadt near Hanover. During the so-called " French era " until the beginning of the Kingdom of Hanover , he wrote a diary for more than a decade about the events he experienced in the years 1803 to 1814.
