from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich Bott (born November 6, 1896 in Hanau , † September 16, 1973 in Schlüchtern ) was a German high school teacher and historian.

Life

Heinrich Bott attended the high school in Hanau, where he passed the Abitur in 1915 . He then studied history at the University of Marburg , where he received his doctorate in 1920 and took the pedagogical examination for teaching at grammar schools in 1922 . In 1918 he was called up for military service.

At first he could not find a job as a teacher and worked as a cashier at the general local health insurance fund . In 1930 he became an assessor in the school service. In 1933, however, the National Socialists rejected his acceptance into the school service. It was not until 1937 he was teacher . Most recently he was a teacher at the Karl Rehbein School in Hanau from 1951 to 1961 . At the same time, he maintained a restless research and publication activity on historical topics, mainly on the history of Hanau . In the end, 134 publications should have come together. He was a member of the Historical Commission for Hesse .

The highlight of his work was, on the one hand, the publication on the old town of Hanau from 1953. In it, he documented - from his own perspective - the medieval / early modern Hanau old town that had been destroyed eight years earlier by air raids , most recently by the air raid on Hanau on March 19, 1945 , and continued her a literary monument. On the other hand, the two-volume publication from 1970/71 on the founding and beginnings of Hanau Neustadt is still the fundamental work on this founding of the city, which shaped the history of Hanau and the entire surrounding area.

Heinrich Bott is buried in the main cemetery in Hanau .

Honors

In 1956 Heinrich Bott became an honorary member of the Gelnhausen History Society, and in 1966 of the Hanau History Society . After his death, a street in Hanau was named after him. The Heinrich-Bott Street (formerly Marie Street) is located in the Old Town Hanauer.

family

Heinrich Bott was married to Trudel, b. Hüglin. The art historian Gerhard Bott (* 1927) is her son.
