Heinrich Göppert (legal scholar)

Heinrich Göppert (born December 21, 1867 in Breslau ; † March 22, 1937 in Bonn ) was a German lawyer and undersecretary of state .

Live and act

As the son of Heinrich Robert Göppert and his wife Erika, b. Stimming (a daughter of Albert Stimming ?), Göppert studied law . In 1894 he was at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin to Dr. iur. PhD . In 1891 he became a trainee lawyer at the Court of Appeal and in 1895 a court assessor at the Berlin district courts.

After three years in the Reich Justice Office , Göppert went to Kiel as a district judge in 1901 . In 1906 he was lecturing council and in 1914 Undersecretary of State in the Prussian Ministry of Trade and Industry . There he was department head for stock exchange, banking, currency and coin matters. At the same time he was State Commissioner at the Berlin Stock Exchange from 1909 to 1914 . In 1917 he was appointed Undersecretary of State in the new Reich Economic Office .

When the Free State of Prussia wanted to get rid of “monarchical” officials, Göppert was retired early in 1919 as a real secret councilor at the age of 52. He took over a professorship for commercial, labor and economic administration law in Bonn and was chairman of the German delegation at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 . In Bonn he founded the university's industrial law seminar. He had to give up the Bonn professorship in 1935 because of his Jewish ancestors under pressure from the National Socialists .
