Heinrich Hart

Heinrich Hart (born December 30, 1855 in Wesel , † June 11, 1906 in Tecklenburg ) was a German author and naturalistic literary and theater critic .

Life

Together with his brother Julius , Heinrich Hart attended the Paulinum grammar school in Münster, where he graduated from high school in 1874. His journalistic activity began here: together with his brother, he published the school magazine " Herz und Geist ". In 1877 the brothers' first literary magazine followed, " Deutsche Dichtung ", in which the first texts by Peter Hille were printed. However, the magazine only made three issues. Also in 1877 Heinrich Hart went to Berlin with his brother, where he joined the naturalistic movement and frequented artist and bohemian circles. Here he was primarily active as a critic and editor. Together with his brother, he published the critical armed conflicts , which are of great importance for naturalism in Germany . From 1883 to 1885 Heinrich Hart was a correspondent for the Breslauer Zeitung, for which he wrote the "Berliner Sonntagsbriefe".

The anthology "Modern Poet Characters" (1884/85) edited by Wilhelm Arent helped early naturalism to break through. The brothers Heinrich and Julius Hart also published a number of poems in this volume. Later journalistic attempts with the " Berlin Monthly Books for Literature, Criticism and Theater " (1885) and the "Critical Yearbook" (1889/90) were relatively unsuccessful. In 1889 Heinrich Hart was a founding member of the Free Stage . Later he belonged to the Friedrichshagener poet circle . After a falling out with the circle, he founded the New Community with his brother and other members of the circle of poets in 1902 . He was also one of the founders of the DGG Deutsche Gartenstadt-Gesellschaft , which he chaired from 1902 until his death in 1906.

In addition to his journalistic activities, Heinrich Hart was also literary productive. In 1872 his first volume of poetry "Weltpfingsten, Gedichte eines Idealisten" was published; of his main work, the 24-volume verse epic "The Song of Mankind", he was only able to complete the first three volumes. In addition, he published the tragedy "Sedan" and a volume of novelistic sketches during his lifetime.

He died on June 11, 1906 in Tecklenburg at the age of 50 and was buried there in the Protestant cemetery. His preserved grave is now tended by the city's history and homeland association.
