Heinrich Hettrich

Heinrich Hettrich (born October 8, 1947 in Saarbrücken-Scheidt ; † June 9, 2020 ) was a German Indo-Europeanist .

Life

He put 1966 in St. Ingbert the High School from. He then studied comparative Indo-European linguistics, classical philology , Indo- Iranian and older German at the Saarland University and the University of Gießen . In 1971 he obtained his Magister Artium at Saarland University, where he also received his doctorate three years later . In 1984 he completed his habilitation in Indo-European Linguistics at the University of Munich . After teaching at the Universities of Salzburg and Zurich and holding a C4 professorship for Comparative Linguistics at the University of Marburg , he was offered a position in Würzburg . Since 1989 he has been professor of comparative linguistics at the University of Würzburg , which awarded the Bene Merenti Gold Medal in 2014 . In his last term of office as dean , he was involved in merging the Philosophical Faculties I and II as well as the Faculty of Geosciences to form the new Philosophical Faculty.

From 1996 to 2008 he was on the board of the Indo-European Society and editor of the society journal Kratylos . His research areas were comparisons of ancient Indo-European languages ​​such as Vedic Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, especially in the area of ​​syntax, German studies and Indo-European culture.
