Heinrich II. (Braunschweig)
. Henry II of peaceable , Friedreich Same or Pacificus (* 1411 , † 1473 ) was a Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg from the House of Guelph , was from 1416 to 1428 Prince of Lüneburg and from 1428 until his death in 1473 Prince of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel .
Life
Heinrich II. Was the youngest son of Duke Heinrich dem Mild (* around 1355; † October 14, 1416, founder of the Middle House of Braunschweig ) and his second wife Margarethe of Hesse (1389–1446). Heinrich II got his nickname because he tended to stay out of armed conflicts if possible, in contrast to his older brother Wilhelm , who was nicknamed the Victorious . Her father was granted the principality of Lüneburg in 1409 by dividing the estate. After the death of Heinrich I, the grandfather's legacy was reassembled at the request of his son Wilhelm. This division took place on May 27, 1428. On August 22, 1428 Bernhard , the brother of Heinrich I, chose the Lüneburg part of the country for himself, with which he founded the Middle House of Lüneburg . Wilhelm claimed the paternal inheritance for himself, but shared the business of government with his brother Heinrich. When he was on campaigns of conquest in the surrounding area, the city council of Braunschweig decided to take advantage of these divisions and called on the peace-loving Heinrich II to rebel against his brother Wilhelm. At Easter of the year 1431 Heinrich occupied the castle in Wolfenbüttel, in which his sister-in-law Cäcilia stayed with her children, and drove them out of this property. Thereupon a dispute broke out between the brothers, which was settled on November 23, 1432 by a settlement. Wilhelm received the principality of Calenberg and the counties of Homburg and Eberstein, Heinrich was awarded the state of Wolfenbüttel with the associated towns and castles, making him the sole prince of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel.
