Live and act

Heinrich Klemme was a trained optician. After extensive training as a mechanic and camera assistant at TOBIS Filmkunst GmbH from 1939 to 1941 in Johannisthal , he founded the Atlantis production group in 1943 together with Jan Thilo Haux and Rudolph W. Kipp . In 1944 he went to Hamburg, where he took over the management of the group. In 1948 the company was renamed the Deutsche Dokumentarfilm Gesellschaft. Under the direction of Klemm, the company produced numerous cultural films. These included the award-winning documentaries "Asylum Law" (1948) and, in cooperation with Max Brauer and Heinrich Braune, "Hamburg believes in its future" (1949).

In 1949/50 the company had to file for bankruptcy. Klemme took over the sole management and founded the Deutsche Spielfilm Gesellschaft in 1951/52 together with the director Volker von Collande . The company produced full-length cinema films with “Ich warte auf Dich” (1952) and “Die spanische Fliege” (1954/55). From 1957 to 1962, Klemme was in charge of production at UFA and produced the documentary “Hinein!” About the 1958 World Cup in Sweden .

Klemme considered the documentary about the tall ships known as the Pamir , published in 1959, to be his life's work . For the three-year work, Klemme also took on the complete artistic design for the first time. The film is still considered to be a unique contemporary document.

In 1962, Klemme studied television production in New York for several months . He then headed film production at Deutsche Welle and Eberhard Stock KG in Bielefeld for several years . He also worked as a film calculator for Ullstein AV. Together with Hans Böcker, he made films for Bayer Werke from 1968 to 1971 that showed the use of pesticides. In 1988 Klemme planned one last film project together with Collande. However, the film entitled “Don't turn around, Cherry!” Could not be made due to financial problems.

Heinrich Klemme died in retirement immediately after a long voyage.
