Heinrich Madlseder OSB (baptized name: Joseph; * 1712 in Munich , † October 6, 1779 in Mallersdorf ) was a Benedictine and abbot in Mallersdorf Abbey .

biography

Joseph Madlseder attended the convent school in Mallersdorf and then switched to the seminary of Sankt Paul in Regensburg. He decided to enter the Mallersdorf monastery. Here he made the solemn profession after the novitiate on October 24, 1734 and received the religious name Heinrich. For theological training, Heinrich Madlseder was sent to the joint study program of the Bavarian Benedictine Congregation , which at that time was in the convent ofprüfunging . After completing his studies and being ordained a priest, he became director and professor in the theological in-house study at Mallersdorf Abbey. At the same time, he worked as a pastor in Gerabach for four years . He was then appointed as prefect and teacher of canon law at the Episcopal Lyceum in Freising.

After the death of Abbot Heinrich Widmann, Heinrich Madlseder was elected as his successor by the Mallersdorf convent in 1758. As abbot he was responsible for the completion of the redesign of the monastery church begun by his predecessors. The famous high altar by Ignaz Günther was erected under him (1768). The nave received its early Classicist painting by Matthias Schiffer . The early baroque pulpit was provided with new figures (probably by Christian Jorhan the Elder , 1776). In addition, the ornate side altars were created in the third side chapel on the north and south sides (disputed whether by Mathias Obermayr , 1768). The expansion of the monastery buildings was also completed under Abbot Heinrich Madlseder. He had the guest building built, with which he closed the new western cloister courtyard. The refectory received new equipment. In addition, the fresco hall was created, which is completely painted on the walls and ceiling with biblical scenes between architectural backdrops and landscape views (probably also by Matthias Schiffer).
