Heinrich Mendelssohn (entrepreneur)
Heinrich Mendelssohn (born February 21, 1881 in Posen ; † August 7, 1959 in Geneva ) was a German businessman , building contractor and real estate developer who carried out numerous projects in Berlin between around 1910 and 1933, including some buildings that are still popular today.
Life
Mendelssohn attended elementary school and completed practical training. At a young age he started his own business, and before 1914 he was involved in the development and development of the Hansaviertel , the Bavarian Quarter , the Kurfürstendamm and the Olivaer Platz .
In the 1920s, in collaboration with Albert Heilmann, among others, he built the Europahaus , which today houses the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development , and the Amerikahaus at today's Theodor-Heuss-Platz with the architect Heinrich Straumer .
During the Third Reich he emigrated to Great Britain and returned to Germany in 1946.
Heinrich Mendelssohn is not one of the descendants of the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn . He was active in a number of automobile and water sports clubs and was Consul of Bolivia around 1930 .
