Heinrich Mittag (graphic designer)

Heinrich Mittag (born October 10, 1859 in Hanover ; † May 13, 1920 there ) was a German painter and commercial artist .

Life

Heinrich Mittag first studied at the Hanover School of Applied Arts with Friedrich Kaulbach and Hermann Schaper before attending the Technical University of Hanover from 1883 . In the same year he became a member of the Bauhütte zum white paper .

When painting the interior of sacred and secular buildings, Mittag was close to the Hanover School : from 1887 to 1889 he painted the walls and ceilings in Hildesheim's town hall. He then created interior decorations in the Frauenkirche in Grimma .

In 1890, Mittag joined the Hannoversche Künstlerverein and since then has worked in particular as a commercial artist : As early as 1897, he created the first series (of several) of advertising postcards with seven different motifs of the "Greetings from ..." type (from which three pairs result) for the "HCF", the "Hannoversche Cakes-Fabrik" . In 1904 he created graphic designs for new packaging from Bahlsen. He also provided a design for “The Big Book of the City of Hanover” .

  • 1887–1889: Wall and ceiling paintings in Hildesheim town hall
  • 1889–1890: Decoration in the Frauenkirche Grimma
  • 1904: Commercial graphics (draft) for new packaging for the Bahlsen company
  • 1909: Graphic for a newspaper advertisement for Bahlsen's Leibniz biscuit
  • Draft for The Big Book of the City of Hanover , which later became the Golden Book of the City of Hanover .
