Heinrich Nettelbladt (* March 8, 1715 in Rostock ; † March 26, 1761 ibid) was a German lawyer and Rostock mayor .

The family had been represented on Rostock's city ​​council for several generations . His father Heinrich Nettelbladt (1664-1735) was a wealthy Rostock merchant and senator . In 1714 he married the daughter of the Mecklenburg Chamber Council Dörcksen. The couple had two sons, Heinrich and Daniel .

Professional background

Heinrich Nettelbladt studied from 1730 to 1738 in Rostock , Greifswald and Leipzig . After receiving his doctorate in Greifswald in 1738, Nettelbladt first worked as a lawyer and lecturer in Rostock. In 1746 he was elected to the council and received a. a. the supervision of the city archive, whose holdings he viewed and published. From 1752 to 1761 he published a large number of previously unpublished documents in the “Rostockische Nachrichten und Anzeige”.

In 1756 Heinrich Nettelbladt was elected mayor of the city of Rostock. He was convinced that Rostock had always been an imperial-free city and tried to prove this on the basis of the documents. This brought him into conflict with the Mecklenburg rulers, who declared any reference to his collection of documents published in 1757 to be null and void.

During the Seven Years' War , Nettelbladt defended the interests of the city in difficult negotiations with the Prussian commanders.
