Heinrich Oswald (Manager)

Heinrich Oswald (born May 15, 1917 in Riehen , Canton Basel-Stadt ; † March 6, 2008 in Küsnacht ZH ) was a Swiss manager and reformer of the Swiss Army .

Life

Heinrich Oswald attended the Humanist Gymnasium in Basel and was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD. In 1943 he was admitted to the bar. He first worked in the Federal Department of Economic Affairs (1943–1946) in Bern and then joined the food company Knorr , where he held various functions (head of personnel, sales and export manager, marketing director) before becoming general director in 1966. From 1972 to 1983 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors and Delegate of the Board of Directors of the Swiss media company Ringier .

Heinrich Oswald was announced by the Federal Councilor Rudolf Gnägi used Commission on questions of military education and training of the army (report Oswald) to modernize the army, which is entitled, among other things, the abolition of the Prussian Attention position (standing at attention) and the extension of the previously exclusively officers Salutation "Herr" recommended for all soldiers (so-called Oswald reform; as a result, however, the salutation "Herr" was dropped for all ranks).

During Oswald's time at Knorr, the advertising character Knorrli was introduced , which every Swiss child was familiar with in the second half of the 20th century.

During his tenure at Ringier, Schweizer Illustrierte and Sie + Er were merged, the printing center in Adligenswil LU was expanded and new magazines such as GlücksPost and L'Hebdo were introduced. He also founded the Ringier School of Journalism . He retired in 1984 and voluntarily passed away in 2008 with the help of an euthanasia organization.
