Rudolf Gnägi

Rudolf Gnägi (born August 3, 1917 in Schwadernau , Canton Bern , † April 20, 1985 in Spiegel near Bern , entitled to live in Schwadernau) was a Swiss politician ( BGB / SVP ). As a Federal Councilor , he was Minister of Transport and Defense and held the office of Federal President twice . Gnägi was married to Verena von Allmen.

From 1952 to 1965 Gnägi was a member of the Bern government (executive branch of the canton ) and from 1953 he was also the Bern National Councilor in the Swiss parliament .

He was elected to the Federal Council on December 8, 1965 ; he took office on January 1, 1966. On December 31, 1979, he resigned.

Others

From his tenure as head of the military department came the introduction of the jersey shirt 75, the so-called Gnägi , an olive green, light turtleneck sweater for the troops.
