Paul Chaudet (1958)

Paul Chaudet (born November 17, 1904 , † August 7, 1977 ), entitled to live in Corsier-sur-Vevey , was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

He was a trained farmer and initially worked in his parents' vineyards . 1930-37 he was on the municipal council of the wine-growing village of Rivaz . A federal decree introduced a wine tax, which was boycotted by the Comité de Chexbres , whose leadership Paul Chaudet took over in 1936. Due to his commitment he was elected mayor in 1937. He held this office until 1943 and from 1945 to 1946 again. From 1937-42 he was a member of the Grand Council, where he represented his own party as well as the Vaud wine-growing class. 1943–54 he was in the National Council. As a government resp. He headed the State Council from 1946–47 the cantonal justice and police department and from 1948–54 the economics department.

He was elected to the Federal Council on December 16, 1954 . His term of office ended on December 31, 1966 after he had announced his resignation on November 28, 1966 in the wake of the Mirage affair . During his tenure he was in charge of the military department .

He was Federal President in 1959 and 1962 and Vice President in 1958 and 1961.
