Heinrich Reimann (diplomat)

Heinrich Reimann (born May 16, 1944 in Winterthur ; † February 2, 2007 in Vienna ) was a Swiss diplomat .

Life

Reimann studied in Zurich and Geneva and then received his doctorate in law from the University of Zurich .

He joined the foreign service in 1970 and was an attaché in Bern and Belgrade . In 1973 he became secretary of the Swiss embassy in Bonn . From 1973 to 1976 he was employed in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in the section on international law. From 1977 to 1980 he worked as embassy secretary in the Swiss embassy in Paris and in 1980 he was promoted to counselor. From 1980 to 1985 he worked in the FDFA, whose section on international law he headed from 1981. In 1984 he was promoted to Vice Director of the FDFA.

In 1986 the Federal Council appointed him ambassador to Tehran and in 1989 ambassador to Algiers . From 1991 he was also accredited with the government of Mauritania with his official seat in Algiers.

From August 30 to September 1, 1993 he held the post of commissioner of the International Conference for the Protection of War Victims in Geneva. From 1993 to 1996 he headed Political Department II of the FDFA.

From 1997 to June 14, 2001 he was ambassador to The Hague . From 2011 to 2004 Heinrich Reimann represented Switzerland at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe , the UN and other international organizations in Vienna .
